Thursday?

Ducks playoff game and rolling of the characters this Thursday? I'm hyped. Saturday the 25th can't come fast enough. What are you thinking of rolling Bethany? Hopefully, between you and Angela, we'll have a leader and a striker but feel free to weigh your options. You seem like you would enjoy a leader though, especially since they do lots of super cool things in 4e rather than just heal dudes like in 3.5. Shaman? Warlord? The return of the Bard?!?!

I think both the shaman and the bard look really cool, but whatever you guys pick is fine, as long as it looks like fun to you.

I can't wait either! See you guys tomorrow!

Um... I think I am going to need a lot of assistance today. I don't have much of an idea of what I want to be... and I don't have the books and stuff! I am sure you two (Brian and Dan) will have plenty of input... haha!

Brian will bring the books, and since I'm sure you're not going to be completely engrossed in the hockey game, you can look through them and maybe pick a few options. Then Brian and I can go into a little more depth on each option to help you decide.

It would be good to have a general idea of what you want to do.

1. Do you want to stay an elf? If not, there are a lot of options on races, but that's completely a matter of what you think is cool - it won't have much affect on gameplay. There are some neat new races (dragonborn, half-demon things called tieflings, shapeshifters, etc.).

2. What is your general desire on the type of character you want? There are 4 basic types:

-Defender - takes a lot of damage and forces guys to attack them; very buff
- Leader - does a lot of helping members of the party, including some healing but not exclusively, while still doing damage and causing problems for the bad guys.
- Striker - basically just puts out a ton of damage
- Controller - kind of a jack of all trades: does some damage, forces enemies to move or act in certain ways, does a little bit of healing

One thing to remember is that all of these options do cool things. The old D&D was very specialized and once you picked an option for your class, you were kind of stuck; i.e. bards play music to make people better or druids heal. This is not like that. Classes all have powers that give you options based on what you like doing. And the nice thing is that every time you level, if you don't like your powers, you can change them.

Really, if you can just think a little bit about question 2 before tonight, that will help us narrow the options for you and make it so that you don't have to read the whole dang book. But we will certainly "help" you make your choice (cough*LEADER*cough).
